Write a research paper on some aspect of Haiti's economy. Use APA style guide. The paper should be 3-5 pages of text; double spaced.
The paper is due February 24th. You may work at your own pace between now and then, but bear in mind that this is a substantial amount of work and should be started immediately. Late submissions will be penalized 2% per day late.
You may upload intermediate items if you want to. If you have not done this before, I would suggest that you send me the following items: (i) your proposed topic, (ii) the sources you intend to use, and (iii) a draft of the paper, before you complete and submit (iv) your final paper. Please upload the items to this assignment on myBC and email me to alert me to the fact that you have done so. Please allow at least 3 days for me to review a draft. I will try and get back to you in one day for the topic and sources.
Please familiarize yourself with the rubric before starting the assignment. The paper is graded out of 40 points, but this will be converted to a percentage for overall grade calculation.
This link http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Research-Paper provides a good guide to writing a research paper. In addition, I would like you to use only peer-reviewed journal articles and government web pages as sources. You may quote from magazines and newspapers, but make it clear that such sources are not authoritative. Journals and newspapers always have a bias of some sort and cannot be relied on to provide objective facts. They invariably provide opinion first and only the facts that support that opinion. Avoid using books as sources (except the textbook we are using). They take too long to assimilate and some of them are as lacking in authority as newspapers.
You may want to familiarize yourself with Haiti's history. Wikipedia is not a bad place to get this background information, but do not quote it or use it as a source. If you want to use something you find in Wikipedia, you will have to find another source that corroborates it. Most Wikipedia articles have references at the end. Most of these will be from peer-reviewed articles and therefore valid sources.
